About product

Closed exhaust nozzle F-16C (F110-GE) 1:48 — a Reskit resin set

This is an add-on set of cast resin, not a kit of an aircraft. It replaces the exhaust nozzle of the Lockheed Martin F-16C powered by the General Electric F110 series engine, and that in the closed position. The set is intended for 1:48 scale and the maker is Reskit.

Why replace the nozzle

On a model of a fighter the exhaust nozzle is among the most closely watched places. In injection-molded kits it is formed by two halves with a mold seam inside the duct, which can only be sanded away with difficulty, and the outer petals tend to be too thick because of the molding technology. A resin nozzle has a deep duct with no seam, sharp petal edges and fine texture on the outer surface, so the build shortens to cleaning up, gluing on and painting.

Choosing the engine and the position

The F-16 was delivered with two different powerplants. The nozzle of the General Electric F110 series engine has a different shape and a different length from the nozzle of the F100 series, so the sets are not interchangeable and it is necessary to know which engine the machine being modeled had. This set moreover corresponds to the closed, that is clenched position of the petals; the position changes on jet aircraft with the power setting of the engine and with whether the machine is standing parked, so go by photographs of the situation you want to capture.

Fitting and painting

Wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that residues of the mold release agent are removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, never break them off, and sand the cut; when sanding resin, protect your airways and work wet if possible. It is glued with superglue, that is cyanoacrylate. Apply a primer before painting. The nozzle is built up from metallic shades, onto which heat tinting of the petals and soot streaks are applied with pigments or heavily thinned paints. Before buying, check that the set matches your own kit.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers of modern jet aircraft in 1:48 scale
  • Builders who want to get rid of the seam in the nozzle duct
  • More experienced modelers with experience of resin
  • Anyone interested in capturing a machine parked or at rest

The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is an add-on set that replaces the exhaust nozzle in a kit. The base F-16 kit has to be obtained separately.

It can be told from the particular aircraft and its operator. The nozzles of the F110 and the F100 series have a different shape and length, so it is wise to check the type against photographs of the machine being modeled.

It is the clenched arrangement of the nozzle petals. The position differs on jet aircraft with the power setting of the engine and with whether the machine is standing; choose it according to the situation you want to capture.

They are glued with superglue, that is cyanoacrylate. Before painting it is a good idea to wash the parts free of the mold release agent and spray a primer over them, otherwise the paint holds badly.
