Injection-molded plastic kit of the British tank destroyer M10 IIC Achilles in 1:48 scale by Tamiya. The model faithfully captures the vehicle's bulky shape, with a ring-shaped counterweight on the long gun barrel and the characteristic counterweight at the rear of the turret.
The Achilles was a British modification of the American M10 tank destroyer: the original 3-inch gun was replaced with the formidable British 17-pounder gun. Most vehicles were the M10 IIC variant with a noticeably enlarged counterweight at the rear of the turret. About a thousand were built, and the Allies used them to good effect after the Normandy landings, when the gun's power could punch through even the frontal armor of heavy German tanks.
First finish the running gear and the open-topped turret. Glue the parts with a thin liquid cement for plastic, and apply the olive shade with an airbrush over a primer coat. Bring out the turret interior and armament with a wash and dry-brushing, and suggest dust on the running gear with pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
