The set is aimed at the filtration of the intake air, that is at a feature that on this type of vehicle takes up a substantial space at the rear. In a plastic kit this area tends to be dealt with in simplified form or is covered over; the accessory makes it possible to show it in a form that matches the real equipment. The designation easy means a smaller number of parts and simpler assembly.
The M1A2 Abrams is powered by a gas turbine, which takes in a great quantity of air. The filtration is therefore large and in service, especially in dusty terrain, it is among the regularly serviced assemblies. It is precisely the dust settled around the filtration spaces that is one of the most typical visible marks of these vehicles in the field.
Before building, wash the castings in warm water with detergent and remove the casting blocks by cutting, not by snapping. Do the sanding wet and with protection for your breathing. The filtration features stand out when, after the basic coat, you bring them out with a dark wash and then go over the edges with a dry brush in a lighter shade. Dispense dusty weathering sparingly: a weak filter in a sand tone first, then pigment applied with a dry brush into the corners and gaps. Always let pigment be fixed, otherwise it is wiped off during handling. Leave the rest of the vehicle cleaner; the contrast between a dusty rear and the rest of the hull comes across as convincing.
