An injection-molded plastic kit of the fourth prototype of the Messerschmitt Me 209 line, that is of the machine that came about by rebuilding the original high-speed design. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The package contents, the number of parts and the range of decal schemes are stated on the packaging of the product.
The Me 209 line was created at the end of the 1930s as a purely purpose-built design aimed at maximum speed. It was a small single-engine low-wing monoplane with a very short fuselage, a minimal frontal area and a liquid-cooled inline engine. The V4 prototype represented an attempt to turn this high-speed special into a usable fighter. It therefore received a larger wing area, modified cooling, a reworked landing gear and armament. Its flying qualities nevertheless remained problematic, mainly because of the short fuselage and the poor view, and the machine never reached production. It stayed experimental and what was learned from it fed into further development work.
Paint the cockpit interior and add the belts before you close the fuselage; mask the glazing and fit it only after the varnish has been sprayed. On prototypes it pays to work with a smooth, simply divided surface: sand the fuselage joints and the wing leading edges carefully, because with a single-color finish every irregularity shows on them. Apply thin coats with an airbrush, use gloss varnish under the decals, bring out the panel lines with a thin wash and even out the surface with a semi-matte varnish. Keep the weathering restrained, as the prototypes flew few hours.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
