About product

Messerschmitt Bf 109C-3 — a 3D cockpit decal in 1:48 scale

A cockpit accessory for a plastic model, not an aircraft kit. The color print with relief texture sits on decal paper and transfers like an ordinary decal: soak it off in lukewarm water, slide it onto the part, line it up and settle it with a decal softener. It replaces the flat engraved panel that the kit supplies as a bare plastic part. The shapes of the panels correspond to the Modelsvit kit.

What is special about the early cockpit of the C series

This is a Bf 109 from the very beginning of the type's development, and that is the whole point of the set. The cockpit of the early series is markedly sparser than on later versions: there are fewer instruments, they are grouped differently and it lacks equipment that only reached the machine during the war. Anyone who takes a panel from a later version for an early cockpit gets a nonsense — it will fit the area but not the content. At the same time what always applies to the Messerschmitt holds here: the space is immensely tight, the trim and flap controls are brought out as hand wheels on the left wall and the gunsight dominates the front panel. That is exactly why with this series it pays to choose the set by the precise version, not by the type.

What stays visible once the canopy is closed

The early Bf 109s carried a densely framed canopy hinged to the side, with small flat panes and considerably heavier framing than later machines. Once it is closed, then, it is mainly the front panel, the upper part of the seat and the belts that stay legible, while the side walls with the trim wheels are lost almost entirely. If you are building a closed cockpit, put the work into the panel and the belts. If you want to show the side detail, you have to hinge the canopy open — otherwise nobody will see it.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of early Bf 109 versions in 1:48 scale
  • Modelers who want a panel matching the prewar series
  • Those building with the canopy hinged open who want to show the side walls
  • Anyone interested in detail without photo-etched parts, a bending tool and cyanoacrylate glue

The set is an accessory for the build, not a kit. The model, glue, paints and decal softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Check before ordering that the set corresponds to your particular kit.

FAQ

We do not recommend it. The cockpit of the early series was fitted out differently and was sparser, so a later panel would not match the real subject.

No, it is an accessory for the cockpit of a plastic model in 1:48 scale. Neither the model nor paints are included in the package.

As a decal. It is soaked off in lukewarm water, slid into place and settled with a decal softener. It is not glued with plastic cement.

The front panel and the belts, yes; the side walls practically not. The early Bf 109s had a densely framed canopy with small flat panes.
