Five sets of markings for the Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 from 1939 to 1941, among them the machines of Adolf Galland and Hans Philipp, in 1:48.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 was the version of the Emil with which the Luftwaffe entered the fighting over France and over the Channel. Against the later machines it still had a framed canopy and classic engine cowling, so it is easy to recognize on a model. This sheet offers five subjects for it, and all of them belong to machines flown by commanders or by pilots with a documented record.
The first subject is the machine of Herbert Ihlefeld of the assault group of LG 2, captured at Calais in March 1941. Next comes the Emil of Adolf Galland of the III. Gruppe of JG 26 from France in June 1940, that is from the time when the Battle of Britain was getting under way. The third is the aircraft of Lieutenant Hans Philipp of the 4th Staffel of JG 54 from a French August in 1940. The fourth variant belongs to the 1st Staffel of JG 2 in the spring of 1940, and the five are closed by the machine of Lieutenant Heinz Bär of the 1st Staffel of JG 51 from France in September 1940.
The fuselage of the Emil is fairly smooth where the crosses go, but under the canopy and at the wing root a motif passes over rows of rivets. It is precisely there that it helps to press the decal down with a cotton bud dipped in a setting solution. The kit of the aircraft and the paints do not belong to the set.
