A masking set from the QMT brand in 1:48 scale for the early Bf 109F versions. It is a modeling accessory for painting, not a model of the aircraft: self-adhesive, pre-cut shapes that close off the area of the wheel bays during spraying.
A mask on its own will not guarantee a sharp transition if the spraying over it is done badly. The best results come from thinly diluted paint at lower pressure and in several thin coats; a heavy coat at high pressure builds a ridge at the edge of the mask that stays as a visible step once it is off. Lead the nozzle at a constant distance and begin and end the movement away from the masked area, not over it. If you are spraying enamel or a clear coat, allow for the fact that they run more easily than acrylic, and thin the coats further.
Before masking, let the model rest so that the filler primer cures perfectly. Run a blunt wooden stick along the edge of the mask and spray only a light misted coat first, which seals the edge. Once it is off, check the transition against the light — a small step can be knocked back with very fine sandpaper and polished over.
The package contains masks only. The model, the paints and the glue are not in it.
