A masking set for the model of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M3 model 22 Reisen fighter in 1:48 scale. The extent of the masked areas is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mitsubishi A6M Reisen, better known as the Zero, was a Japanese carrier fighter of the Second World War. After the short-winged model 32, the A6M3 model 22 version returned to the long wing with folding tips, so it again combined long range with the agility Japanese crews were used to. It was powered by a radial engine. Machines of this version appeared mainly in the fighting over the South Pacific.
The masks are there so that a sharp transition between colors is made by the spraying itself and not by a brush. They are applied to the part before painting and lifted once it has dried, leaving a cleanly bounded area beneath them. In 1:48 scale even small shapes that are hard to draw with a brush can be managed this way, and the result is repeatable on both halves of the model.
The surface has to be dry, clean and degreased, or the mask will not hold and paint will run underneath. Position the mask with tweezers and press it down around the whole perimeter with the tip of a toothpick, especially in the corners. Spray the paint in several thin coats; a heavy coat tears as the mask is lifted and leaves a step. Lift the masks soon after the paint has dried and pull them at a low angle, not straight up.
The kit, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
