The resin Nakajima Kotobuki Ha-1 engine with the type 1 exhaust in 1:48 scale from the ABK brand is an accessory set for modelers who want a faithfully rendered radial engine exposed on a Japanese aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory. The set in cast resin replaces the simplified engine from a plastic kit with a radial engine rendered in detail in 1:48 scale, including the exhaust in the type 1 form. Resin castings hold the sharp finning of the cylinders and the thin walls of the exhaust piping, which injection-molded plastic cannot manage to this extent.
The Kotobuki was a Japanese air-cooled radial engine from the Nakajima company of the first half of the 1930s; its development came from a British design built under license and in the Japanese system of marking it carried the designation Ha-1. It powered fighters and trainers of its day. It is precisely on aircraft with an exposed engine that the engine section is the first thing a viewer looks at, so a detailed replacement pays off more than on cowled types.
Wash the parts in warm soapy water, so that no mold release is left on the surface. Cut the casting blocks with a saw, do not break them, and sand wet with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate; cement for plastic does not bite into resin. An engine is easier to paint off the model: a base in a dark metallic shade, the cylinder heads set apart, the wiring and the auxiliary units drawn out with a dry brush and finally a fine dark wash in the finning. Treat the exhaust piping separately; shades of rust and burnt steel applied thinly and unevenly suit it. Before gluing it into the fuselage, try the fit dry and adjust the firewall if necessary.
This is an accessory set, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
