A set of covering films for the cockpit of the early P-40 in 1:48, that is the machine with the short nose and the long greenhouse canopy. Cut to the Hobbycraft kit, face and reverse.
Responsibility details are not available.
The early Curtiss versions are associated today above all with the volunteer group that defended the road into China in the spring of 1942. The mouth painted under the radiator was not an American idea; they picked it up from the British in North Africa, and those in turn from German twin-engine machines. It worked splendidly, though: the wide radiator under the engine gave the machine a shape into which a toothed jaw fitted as if made to measure.
This type was also one of the few that got into the air on the day of the attack on Hawaii. Two pilots took off with it from a field strip in the north of the island and shot several attackers down. The Allison engine without a second supercharger stage condemned the aircraft to fighting at low altitudes, but it took a hit and settled onto a poor surface more reliably than its slimmer competition.
Two rows of frames run through the glazed spine, and with them there is a flat armored pane at the front set into a metal frame and small windows at the sides. Anyone cutting the mask himself can easily spend an hour on it and still end up with one frame thicker than the rest. A template cuts the shape for him, including those windows the size of a pinhead.
The set was drawn to the clear parts by Hobbycraft. On a casting of another origin, reckon with the spacing of the frames being different and the film starting to miss the frame.
