Covering templates for the glazing of the 1:48 Mustang in its late version, cut to the parts of the Hasegawa kit. They include the outer and the inner side of the clear components.
Responsibility details are not available.
The last year of the war blew the late Mustangs as far as the Pacific. From a volcanic island halfway to Japan, fighter groups took off on escorts that lasted seven hours over water without a single alternate airfield. The pilots learned to navigate by one bomber at the head of the formation and their main enemy was often the weather, not the anti-aircraft defenses. Five years later the same type, by then under a different letter in its designation, served over Korea as an attack machine.
Masking films are drawn by tracing a particular clear part. Castings from different manufacturers differ on this cockpit both in the curvature of the canopy and in the width of the frame around the front pane. A template from another mold will therefore either not reach the frame or climb over it, and after spraying a stripe of paint stays on the glass. A set for each source of casting is thus a different product, even though the aircraft is the same.
The parts are lifted off the backing with the tip of a knife, laid on dry and pressed down with a wooden toothpick so that the clear surface is not scratched. The whole procedure including the gloss coat under the decals is sprayed over them, and they are taken off only at the end.
The target casting is the 1:48 kit by Hasegawa. For a machine from another mold the manufacturer offers a set under a separate item.
