A decal sheet from the manufacturer Kits-World with a set of general markings for models of the North American P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not the scheme of one particular machine but a stock of identification numbers and letters from which you assemble the markings after a subject of your own. This version of the sheet is done for aircraft with an unpainted bare metal surface. The extent of the character set and the sizes of the individual characters follow the illustration on the packaging.
The P-51D was the most widespread production version of the Mustang. Its recognition features are the bubble canopy with the cut-down fuselage spine, the four-blade propeller and the Packard Merlin V12 engine with a radiator in a duct under the fuselage. A number of machines of this version flew without a covering finish, so the serial numbers, codes and additional lettering were applied directly onto the polished duralumin surface. It is to exactly that which the form of this sheet corresponds.
Bare metal is the most demanding surface for decals there is. Metallic finishes have a microscopically uneven surface and the decal film is apt to silver on them. Work in this order, therefore: let the metallic finish stand for a day, go over it with a thin clear gloss coat, apply the decals only onto that and press them down at once while wet. Once dry, use decal softener spot by spot and even out any remaining edge of film with another thin gloss overspray. Plan the characters out dry beforehand: the individual numbers are stuck on separately and the spacing has to be measured.
This is a standalone decal sheet. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
