A resin set of propellers, engines, and engine cowlings for the Catalina in 1:48 scale, designed so the engine bay can be built open. Made for the Revell, Monogram, and Hasegawa kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The flying boat Consolidated PBY Catalina was one of the most widely used aircraft for maritime patrol and air-sea rescue in the Second World War. The PBY-5 version, the amphibious PBY-5A, and the American rescue OA-10A all carried a pair of radial engines in nacelles on the parasol wing above the fuselage, so the engine installation is clearly visible on a model from every side.
A replacement for the entire powerplant in 1:48 scale: propellers, engines, and engine cowlings. The design assumes you will leave at least one nacelle open, so the parts carry detail beyond what injection-molded plastic can manage, including fine cylinder fins and thin cowling outlines.
The set is designed for the Revell, Monogram, and Hasegawa kits. Test-fit the parts dry before gluing, and correct any play by adjusting the seat in the nacelle rather than sanding the part itself. Join resin with cyanoacrylate or epoxy; plastic cement will not hold on it. Before spraying, degrease the parts with lukewarm water and dish soap and let them dry completely. An open engine rewards layering: a base shade, a darker application into the shadows between cylinders, and dry-brushing on the fin edges.
For modelers who want to turn the Catalina into a showpiece and are not satisfied with the smooth engine dummy from the box. The package contains only the resin parts described above; the kit, paints, and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
