A masking set from the SX-Art brand for painting a model of the F/A-18E carrier-borne combat aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit and not a part of a model, but an aid for painting: the masks are stuck onto the canopy and other areas, sprayed over and lifted off once the paint has dried. The dimensions and shapes are based on the Hobby Boss kit.
The F/A-18E is the single-seat version of the enlarged carrier-borne aircraft derived from the older Hornet line. Against its predecessor it has a larger fuselage and wing, angular air intake lips and a greater fuel load, which showed in its range and in the carrying capacity for stores. The machine is intended for operations from aircraft carriers, so it has strengthened landing gear and an arresting hook. The model has an extensive single-piece canopy with a narrow frame, where a clean edge of paint is most visible.
The canopy has to be perfectly clean and degreased before the mask is stuck on. Seat the mask with tweezers, press the edges down and spray in thin layers. First apply the shade of the interior, then the external color. Carrier-borne aircraft are usually finished in matte gray shades with strongly worked panel lines, so after lifting the mask off, let the finish harden and only then work with a wash, so that it does not run under the edge. Lift the mask off as soon as the paint has set.
It is an accessory to a model, not the model itself. The kit and paints are not included in the package. Before you buy, check that the set matches your kit.
