A decal sheet in 1:48 scale for the Soviet Polikarpov I-153 fighter biplane, on the theme of Soviet airmen of the interwar and wartime years.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Polikarpov I-153 was the last of the Soviet line of fighter biplanes and at the same time one of the few biplanes in the world with retractable landing gear. Its upper wing had a cranked shape, which gave the machine the nickname Chaika, meaning seagull; the crank improved the pilot's view forward. It was powered by a radial engine and its armament consisted of machine guns in the nose. By the time it appeared the era of biplane fighters was already over, yet the I-153 saw combat in the Far East, in the Winter War and in the first months of the fighting of 1941, where it served mainly for attacks on ground targets. The name of the sheet points to the period term for Soviet airmen, who were called Stalin's Falcons.
Decals in 1:48 scale for building a model of the I-153. The extent of the sheet, the number of marking variants and their assignment are described in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
The sheet is a classic wet decal. Cut the subject out close to the edge of the film, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and wait until it releases from the backing paper. Apply it over smooth gloss varnish. On a biplane watch out for the fabric-covered areas and the ribs: a decal softener lets the film sink into the hollows between the ribs, so the markings do not look like a stuck-on rectangle. Finally go over it with matte or semi-gloss varnish.
For modelers of the Soviet Air Force in 1:48 scale. The package holds a decal sheet; the aircraft model, the paints and the varnish do not belong to it, unless stated otherwise.
