An unpainted figure cast in resin in 1:48 scale, a ratio suited to aircraft models and to smaller dioramas with equipment. The subject is a Polish infantryman of the autumn of 1939 with the wz. 35 anti-tank rifle, which carried the cover designation Ur. The figure is supplied as a set of castings with casting blocks that have to be removed before building. Toro Model is a Polish maker focused on resin figures and accessories on the subject of the Polish army.
The figure is treated as an infantryman in the field: a helmet, a tunic, trousers tucked into high boots, a belt with supporting straps and pouches. In his hands he holds the wz. 35 anti-tank rifle, a long single-shot weapon of 7.92 mm caliber with a long barrel, a bipod and a muzzle flash suppressor. It is this weapon that makes the figure interesting, because the silhouette of the long rifle is unmistakable and readable at once in a scene. In modeling terms it is gear with a great many straps and buckles, which offer a contrast between cloth, leather elements and metal when painting.
First wash the castings in warm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears from the surface and the paint holds. Cut the casting blocks off with a modeling saw rather than nippers, as resin is brittle and cracks easily. Sand it wet or with respiratory protection, as resin dust is not to be breathed. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate and fill any small gaps with filler or a drop of glue with a filler added. Lay on a primer before painting, ideally sprayed, so that it does not clog the detail. On figures of this size a base shade, shading with a fine wash in the folds and picking out the edges with a dry brush work well, as does layering with acrylics. Paint the face and hands separately and leave them until last.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glues and a base are not included in the package.
