This is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory for one. The set contains photo-etched metal parts intended for the external parts of a model of the Panavia Tornado ECR in 1:32 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. Photo-etch is used where injection-molded plastic is by its nature too thick: flaps, grilles, covers, small panels and panel latches get a thickness matching reality, so the surface of the model stops looking soft. The particular contents of the package and the number of parts are stated on the box.
The Panavia Tornado is a twin-engine combat aircraft with a variable-geometry wing and a crew of two, developed by a European consortium. The ECR version came about for the suppression of ground radar systems and for electronic combat, for which specialized equipment and anti-radiation armament serve. The exterior of the machine is busy, with a great many covers, antennas and openings, which is exactly the situation in which photo-etched parts tell most on the surface.
Separate the parts with a scalpel on a hard surface; do not break them out. For crisp folds a photo-etch bender or at least two razor blades and metal rules suit well. Degrease the metal before gluing, sand the plastic surface smooth and remove the original molded detail that the photo-etched part is to replace. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin, and on large areas in spots, so that no white blooming is left behind. Bare metal needs a primer, otherwise paint holds poorly. On the exterior it works well to spray a gloss coat under the decals and to accent the panel lines at the end.
This is an accessory for a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
