Pz.Kpfw. IV, photo-etched Schürzen 1:48 from the Czech maker Hauler bring the side protective shields of the hull and turret in a thickness plastic will never reach.
Responsibility details are not available.
An extensive photo-etched set of side protective shields, in German Schürzen, for a model of the medium tank Pz.Kpfw. IV in 1:48 scale. It is an accessory for the Tamiya plastic kit, not a standalone model. In scope it is among the larger sets in the range, so count on longer work than with a simple grille.
The Schürzen were thin steel plates hung on brackets along the sides of the hull and around the turret. They were introduced during 1943 as protection against the rounds of antitank rifles and shaped-charge ammunition. In practice the plates were often lost, bent, or taken off by the crews, so period photographs show vehicles with a complete set as well as with several pieces missing. The set allows both, because you hang each plate separately.
The most demanding items are the thin hanging rails and hooks. It pays to work in small sections, to bend the parts in a bending tool and to glue with cyanoacrylate in drops applied with a pin. Let the assembly cure thoroughly before you transfer it to the model. If you want a vehicle from the later period of deployment, bend a few plates and leave one or two out; then pick the edges of the bends out by rubbing the base paint through to the metal. Degrease the brass before painting and apply a primer.
This is an accessory, not a standalone kit. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
