A separate decal sheet for builders of the carrier reconnaissance aircraft RA-5C Vigilante in 1:48 scale. According to the name it is tied to a machine operated from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. The list and the reference drawings the maker encloses are what counts.

The real subject

The Vigilante came about as a carrier bomber, and only in the RA-5C version did it become a reconnaissance machine with its equipment housed in an elongated fairing under the fuselage. It was a two-seat aircraft with a high-mounted swept wing, an all-moving vertical tail and a pair of turbojets. It was among the largest and heaviest machines regularly operated from the decks of aircraft carriers, and its elongated silhouette is therefore unmistakable among carrier aircraft.

How to work with the sheet

• apply the decals onto a gloss surface, as a matte varnish leaves a white edge around the motif
• cut the motif out close and soak it for a few seconds in lukewarm water
• once it has come free of the backing, slide it onto the model and press the water out from the middle outward
• on large areas and across scribed lines a decal softener helps
• seal the dried decals with a coat of varnish in the degree of gloss you want
