This is a scenic accessory for completing terrain in 1:35 scale, not a model of equipment. The package holds separate tufts of dried grass in a summer to autumn shade, which are set onto the base of a diorama one by one. The dry tone suits baked field tracks, the edges of ditches, ruins, abandoned yards and anywhere grass does not grow in a continuous carpet but only in scattered clumps.
The tufts break up the empty areas of a base and give a scene scale and depth. Placed at the wheels and tracks of equipment, along low walls, around bollards or in the cracks of paving, they give away at once that a model stands in real terrain and not on a bare board. They combine well with sand, fine gravel, static grass, leaves and pigments into a layered, naturally reading surface.
Finish the base first and let it dry, and only then set the tufts in. A thicker PVA glue or a small drop of cyanoacrylate glue under the foot of a tuft proves itself; once it has dried, mask the foot with loose material so that it is not visible. Never plant the tufts in a regular row but in irregular groups and in various sizes, ideally where a real mower or the wheels of equipment would not reach. The shade can be fine-tuned with a spray of heavily thinned paint or a light dusting of pigment, so that the grass matches the color of the surrounding soil. A few tufts pressed down to the ground read as trodden places and help a scene a great deal.
The accessory is intended for further work and for setting onto a base. Glue, paints, a base and a model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
