An injection-molded plastic kit of the British SE.5a fighter biplane in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard in the premium ProfiPACK edition. The model captures a machine adapted for night defense (Home Defence). Besides the plastic, the ProfiPACK edition contains color photo-etched parts, self-adhesive masks for the glazing and resin extras - among them flame dampers for the exhausts. Decals for four specific machines are in the box. Check the exact contents of the box against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The SE.5a was one of the most successful British fighters of the First World War. It was powered by an inline engine and, thanks to its firm and stable structure, it was an excellent gun platform; even the most famous British aces flew it. In the night fighter version it served with Home Defence units against the German airships and bombers that attacked Britain at night; the machines carried flame dampers so that the fire from the exhausts would not dazzle the pilot.
As with every biplane, the accurate assembly of the upper wing and the struts is the key - expect rigging, that is stretching the bracing wires between the wings and the fuselage; that is what gives the model its realism. Fit the color photo-etch into the cockpit and mask the glazing with the enclosed masks. Wash the resin parts free of mold release agent and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. After the gloss coat and the decals, bring out the structure of the covering with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
