MH models painting masks for spraying the Swiss markings onto a model of the twin-engine Siebel Si 204D in 1:48 scale. The set is an alternative to the basic German markings for the same type and lets you build the model in a less usual form. The contents and the number of masks are stated on the box. The masks are cut for the Special Hobby kit.
The Si 204 was built in large numbers and its airframe also served outside its original service, which makes it a rewarding type for modelers who do not want to build the most usual variant. The Swiss markings are based on a striking red and white insignia, so the model takes on a completely different character from the standard camouflage, and yet it is the same airframe.
Red and white markings have one treacherous feature: red itself covers badly, especially on a dark or gray surface, and in the effort to get it rich it is easy to lay on too heavy a coat, which runs under the edge of the mask. The proven procedure is to spray in layers from light to dark: first a white or light gray base in the place of the insignia, let it dry, and only then the red. White under red raises the richness so much that a considerably thinner coat will do. Spray perpendicular to the surface and at low pressure, because an angled stream of air drives paint under the edge of the template. Before you take the mask off, check the coverage against the light, because repairs are only possible while the mask is still in place.
