A decal sheet in 1:48 scale from the Czech brand DK Decals. It is not a kit but an accessory: the decals are applied to a model that has already been built and painted. The theme of the sheet is the air support that the US Army Air Forces (USAAF) gave to the Slovak National Uprising in the autumn of 1944. If you are aiming at a particular aircraft, check the contents of the sheet against the illustration on the packaging before ordering.
The Slovak National Uprising began at the end of August 1944 and its main air base was the airfield at Tri Duby in central Slovakia. During the autumn the US Army Air Forces (USAAF) flew several operations there from Italian bases: the delivery of supplies, the arrival and departure of Allied missions and the evacuation of downed airmen. The flights covered great distances over territory held by the enemy and were escorted by fighter units. The territory held by the insurgents shrank during October, so the operations took place in only a narrow window of time.
Overcoat the model with gloss clear varnish before applying them, because a decal on a matte surface traps air and the edges go dull. Separate the decal, soak it in lukewarm water, slide it into place and blot the surplus water away. A decal softener will help the material settle into the engraved lines and onto curved surfaces. Once dry, wipe the remains of the adhesive away with a damp cloth and seal the surface with a matte or semi-matte varnish. On American aircraft of the late war, expect a combination of painted and natural metal surfaces; on polished metal the edges of decals give themselves away most easily, so here it pays to apply gloss varnish only under the decal.
