This kit from Eduard in 1:48 scale captures the British fighter biplane Sopwith F.1 Camel of the First World War, specifically the version with the Clerget rotary engine. It is a ProfiPACK edition, which adds photo-etched parts to the plastic (often colored ones for the instrument panel and the belts), self-adhesive masks and a decal sheet with several marking options. The exact contents are given in the instructions in the box.
The Sopwith Camel was one of the most successful fighters of the First World War. It got its name from the characteristic hump of the machine gun cowling in front of the cockpit. It was powered by a rotary engine, on this version of the Clerget type, whose strong gyroscopic moment made the Camel an agile but tricky machine that demanded a lot from the pilot. In its day it was credited with a great number of enemy aircraft shot down.
Finish the interior and the rotary engine before closing up the fuselage. Count on rigging the interplane bracing wires and the control cables, which gives the biplane a faithful look; stretched thread or drawn sprue works well. Glue the colored photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate and mask the surfaces before painting. The fabric covering is usually in doped linen and khaki shades.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
