The masking set Soviet White (Yellow) Outlined Red Stars — mid variant, 1:48 from Armycast serves for spraying outlined red stars onto an aircraft model. It is neither a model nor decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
Self-adhesive Armycast masks for spraying Soviet red stars with a white or yellow edging, in the variant designated as mid. The set is an accessory for a kit, not a kit itself. The method is simple in principle and demanding in care: apply, spray, remove. The reward is an insignia that is a genuine part of the paintwork and has not a trace of a carrier film around it.
The outlined red star is among the most frequently depicted markings of Soviet aviation of the late Second World War and the postwar period. A white or yellow outline separated the red area from dark camouflage, so the insignia stayed legible even in poor visibility. The mid variant differs from the early and late ones in the design of the edging and in the proportions of the insignia.
Most mistakes happen when the mask is removed. Do not wait until the paint has fully cured — by then it forms a continuous film and the mask will pull the edge of the insignia away with it. The ideal state is when the paint is touch-dry but not yet hard. Pull the mask away slowly, back over itself at a sharp angle rather than straight up, and work from the points toward the center. The tip of a scalpel helps to lift the edge without touching the paintwork. On larger insignia, take the mask off in sections.
This is an accessory for a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
