Early examples had a carburetor fuel system, and that has one unpleasant property: when the control column is pushed forward sharply, the fuel in the float chamber runs away from the jet and the engine loses power for a moment. The German opponent with injection did not suffer from this and could escape by simply tipping into a dive. British pilots instead had to roll the aircraft onto its back first and only then push the nose down, which cost precious seconds. A makeshift solution came only with a restrictor with a calibrated orifice, which field workshops inserted into the fuel line.
The first production machines of 1938 looked different from what we picture under that name today: a two-blade fixed wooden propeller, no armored glass, the landing gear pumped up by hand after takeoff. Within two years the machine changed literally on the move, because every week of fighting revealed something that had to be put right. By the summer of 1940 it already had a propeller with variable blade pitch, armor behind the seat and self-sealing tanks.
The film is prepared for the busy framing of the early canopy including the windscreen. The inner parts make sure the frames are colored when you look into the cockpit, and the insignia masks make it possible to spray the round marking without using a decal.
