Steyr 1500 cargo version: a 1:48 resin conversion set (CMK)

This is a conversion set in cast resin, 1:48 scale, from the Czech brand CMK, that is an accessory and not a complete kit. The set is intended for converting a plastic model of the Steyr 1500 car into the cargo version with a load area. The package does not contain the base kit, glue or paints.

The real subject

The Steyr 1500 was an Austrian heavier cross-country automobile with all-wheel drive and an air-cooled V8 engine, which gave it an advantage in conditions where liquid cooling caused trouble. It was made in several body versions, from a command car with a closed body through an ambulance version to a cargo flatbed with an open bed and a canvas tarpaulin. The cargo variant is the most typical supply vehicle of its category and in a diorama scene it looks convincing next to smaller cross-country cars.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin castings in lukewarm soapy water first. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the surfaces, preferably wet and with a respirator. It is glued exclusively with cyanoacrylate glue. On a flatbed it pays to concentrate on the wooden parts of the bed: spray the base with a primer, tint the wood with several shades and bring them out with a flowing wash that draws the seams between the planks. The chassis and the fenders will take a solid layer of dust pigments, while the bed is better left scuffed rather than muddy.
