A cast resin body which turns the model of the cross-country truck into the flatbed form with a load area and drop sides. The set is developed for a specific Tamiya kit; that has to be bought separately, and the package holds only the parts of the body. The body is the largest visible part of the whole vehicle and is replaced in one piece.
The Steyr 2000A was a light truck of Austrian design with an air-cooled engine, used by the German army in the Second World War. It was produced with several bodies, of which the open flatbed was the most common: it served to carry material, ammunition and men on benches along the drop sides. Air cooling and a fairly simple design made it a vehicle usable in the harsh conditions of the Eastern Front and in the mountains.
First look at the large resin castings against the light: thin load areas tend to bow slightly. A part cast out of true can be straightened by dipping it in hot water and then weighting it on a flat board until the material cools. Wash the casting in warm water with detergent, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surface by sanding wet with protection for your airways. A flatbed body is excellently suited to working on a wooden floor: a base shade of wood, thin oil glazes in the seams and a dry brush on the edges of the planks. A load, a tarpaulin or boxes from other sets will then give the vehicle scenic credibility. It is bonded with super glue; on large areas the gel version is better.
This is a conversion accessory for a build. The base kit, the load, glue and paints are not included in the package.
