A resin accessory, not a kit of the vehicle. It replaces the gun shield on the model of the StuG III Ausf. G assault gun in 1:48 scale. The point of the set is variation: the shield is the most prominent distinguishing feature on this machine, and a kit usually offers only one version. Swapping a single casting therefore turns the model into a different specific machine without any need to cut into the superstructure.
The StuG III Ausf. G was an assault gun on the Pz.III chassis with a 75 mm gun in a fixed superstructure without a rotating turret. It was built in large numbers, and during production two different versions of the gun protection appeared: the older angular welded shield and the cast shield of rounded shape introduced later. Both versions served alongside each other and in period photographs they are easy to tell apart precisely by the shape of the front of the superstructure.
Wash the casting first in lukewarm water with detergent so that the release agent comes off the surface. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the mating surface on glass with abrasive paper - only then will the shield sit parallel and the barrel not point off to one side. Dry-fit before gluing and check the model from the front; a small deviation is conspicuous on a finished build. The gap between the shield and the superstructure is made good with filler or a thin strip of plastic. In color the shield stands out when the welds and the edges are brought up, because this was the surface most exposed to wear on the machine.
This is an accessory for building a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
