The Sturmtiger 1:48 from AFV Club is a plastic kit of the German heavy assault gun built on the chassis of the Tiger I tank with the massive 38 cm rocket mortar.

This injection-molded plastic kit captures the German Sturmtiger, that is the Sturmmörser based on the Tiger I heavy tank with the giant 38 cm RW61 rocket mortar. The model builds on the design of the Tiger I chassis from the same manufacturer and is completed with photo-etched parts, among them combs for applying the Zimmerit texture and fine photo-etched grilles of the engine deck. Material for two color schemes is included as well. The kit is meant for more experienced modelers with an interest in German armor of the close of the Second World War.
The Sturmtiger came about by rebuilding the hull of the Tiger I tank into a heavy assault gun for fighting in built-up areas. In place of a turret it carried a vented rocket mortar of 380 mm caliber in a fixed superstructure, developed originally for naval depth charges. A single heavy rocket projectile could bring a whole house down, but the range counted only in hundreds of meters and the ammunition supply was small. Only a few dozen vehicles were built, and they were deployed among other places in putting down the Warsaw Uprising and in the closing fighting on the Western Front.
We recommend assembling and fine-tuning the running gear and the interior of the hull before you close up the superstructure. Glue the plastic parts with liquid cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a primer before painting; an airbrush will make even coverage of the large surfaces of the superstructure easier. Bring the surface texture and the chipping out with washes and pigments; mud and dust effects stand out above all on the running gear and the bottom of the hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
