This is not a model of the aircraft but a set of ground equipment for it. According to the name it contains a wheeled boarding ladder in the form for the early version of the Su-27 and wheel chocks. The set is from the LP Models brand and is intended to complement an already built model in 1:48 scale. The number of parts and the dimensions are given on the packaging of the set.
A ladder at the cockpit and chocks under the wheels are the two most typical features of an aircraft parked on the apron. Together they create the impression of a machine between flights, above all in combination with an open canopy or with a figure beside the aircraft. On a diorama they give the airfield surface scale and action; in a display case they are enough on their own as an accessory under the model.
The Su-27 is a twin-engine fighter aircraft with a slender fuselage and a high-set cockpit. It is precisely because of the height of the cockpit above the ground that a boarding ladder is wheeled up to it when it is being prepared for flight. Chocks under the main wheels are part of the standard ground equipment and are used whenever the machine is standing on the apron. The Early epithet in the name refers to the form corresponding to the early machines, which differ from the later ones in the appearance of the ground equipment; the manufacturer offers separate sets for the later versions.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release agent from the mold disappears. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw or a cutting disc and sand the surfaces down, best of all wet and with respiratory protection. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary cement for polystyrene will not serve here. Apply primer, then the base shade, and bring fine details such as the steps, the handrails and the edges of the chocks to life with a dry brush and a light wash. A little dust and wear at the heels of the chocks moves the result closer to reality.
The accessory is supplied unassembled, unpainted and without a model of the aircraft. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
