An unassembled kit of the two-seat sailplane that the US Air Force lists under the designation TG-16A. Brengun has long devoted itself to unusual subjects in small runs, among them modern gliders: in the same scale the brand also offers the civilian form of the same type of machine. Thanks to its great span and clean shapes the model is rewarding on a display shelf.
The TG designation in the US Air Force belongs to training gliders. The TG-16A is a modern two-seat unpowered sailplane of composite construction with a high-aspect-ratio wing, used for basic flying training: on it a crew gains a feel for the controls, for working with thermals and for soaring without the help of an engine. The seats are arranged in tandem, the cockpit is covered by a sliding clear canopy and the landing gear consists of a single main wheel completed with supports. In its civilian form the same type of machine is a widespread training and performance sailplane.
Gliders are rewarding to build but merciless toward the surface: white and light areas show every unevenness, so fill the seams carefully and sand them through several grits. Glue the wings of great span on a flat surface and watch the symmetry of the dihedral until the glue sets. Paint and fit the cockpit before you close the fuselage. Mask the clear canopy and spray in thin coats, as a heavy coat on a thin part rounds off the edges of the frame. A glossy surface calls for a good base and varnish; go very carefully with weathering, because sporting machines tend to be well kept.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
