Photo-etched exhaust covers for the Tiger I of initial production in 1:48 from the Czech maker Hauler are a small but markedly visible replacement for the plastic parts at the rear of a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A small photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler aimed at one single but conspicuous place on a model: the protective covers of the exhaust pipework at the rear of the Tiger I heavy tank in the initial production version. It is not a kit but an accessory for a model you already have. The set is cut for the Tamiya kit.
The rear of a vehicle is almost always visible when a model is displayed, and the exhaust covers are the dominant feature on it. In plastic their walls are necessarily thick and the outline blunt; in photo-etch it is sheet of a few tenths of a millimeter with a genuinely thin edge. The difference stands out above all after painting, when rust and burnt metal are worked on the covers and the edges stay sharp instead of rounded.
An exhaust cover is a curved part, so the photo-etch has to be shaped gradually on a cylindrical support, not bent in one movement. It helps to anneal the brass briefly over a flame and let it cool - it softens and shapes better. It is bonded with super glue, ideally a thicker gel, because that gives you time to seat the part exactly. Degrease the photo-etch before painting and spray it with a base coat; only then apply the rust shades, the pigments and the dark washes.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without the base kit. Glue, paints and the model of the vehicle are not included in the package.
