The American air deployment in Southeast Asia of the early sixties was conducted under the designation Farm Gate. It took place at field airfields where the work was done in heat and dust and where the ground personnel had as much part in operations as the flying crews. The set offers this view in the form of figures for a model.
Most often on the board of a diorama beside an aircraft model, but it also works well in a display cabinet beside a machine on its own. The figures give the scene the size that the model cannot convey by itself; from them the viewer can tell how tall the aircraft really is. In 1:48 scale an adult figure comes out at about three and a half centimeters.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder smooth. Then wash and degrease the surface, and only then apply the base coat. Paint the working clothes in muted tones, put a thin wash into the folds and a light dry brush on the taut areas. Concentrate dust and grime at the feet and the hems; higher up the clothing it looks unnatural. Leave the faces and hands for last and work them with a small number of shades.
The set belongs to modelers who want to build a scene of an airfield area around a model, and to anyone whose display model lacks a crew. The material is not polystyrene and is joined with cyanoacrylate glue.
