1:48 Westland WS-51 Dragonfly HR.3 is a plastic kit of an early British naval helicopter from the AMP brand in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of one of the first helicopters of the Royal Navy from the AMP brand, which has long specialized in less usual helicopter subjects. The model captures the naval HR.3 version in the popular 1:48 scale, so it suits a collection beside ordinary aircraft of the same scale.
The Westland WS-51 Dragonfly was the license-built British version of the American Sikorsky S-51 helicopter. It was powered by a radial piston engine and a simple three-blade main rotor. The HR.3 version served with the Royal Navy at the beginning of the 1950s above all on rescue and liaison duty; the Dragonfly operated from the decks of aircraft carriers as a standby rescue machine and also helped with carrying people and light cargo. For the Royal Navy it meant the beginning of the helicopter era, and to this day it is among the interesting milestones in the history of aviation.
With kits from smaller production runs it pays to dry-fit every assembly first and to clean the parts up carefully. Give attention to the glazing of the cabin, which is a pronounced feature on the Dragonfly; seat it with a glue that does not fog clear parts. Glue the fine details of the landing gear and the rotor head on only at the end of the build. When painting, work with thin coats, accentuate the panel lines with a fine wash and unify the final surface with a matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
