An injection-molded plastic kit of the American fast combat support ship USS Detroit (AOE-4) in 1:700 scale from the company Trumpeter. The model can be built as a full hull or as a waterline; a base and photo-etched parts are included. The finished model measures roughly 34.7 cm. Helicopters for the deck are in the package as well.
USS Detroit was a unit of the Sacramento class — large fast support ships that combined the roles of a tanker, an ammunition ship and a stores ship in a single hull. Thanks to their high speed they were able to keep pace with the carrier task forces and to replenish them with fuel, ammunition and supplies under way.
Choose the full hull or the waterline in advance. Glue the plastic with a thin modeling cement and the fine and photo-etched parts with super glue. The extensive decks and the handling gear for replenishment under way stand out after priming and a coat sprayed with an airbrush; the helicopters and the aerials round off the overall impression.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
