This detail accessory from Aoshima serves to render the flight deck of a model of the Japanese aircraft carrier Soryu in 1:700 scale realistically. It is not a ship kit but a shaped self-adhesive deck sheet that is stuck onto the flight deck and gives it the faithful texture of plank covering as well as the deck markings.
The sheet refines the look of the flight deck, evens out the color of the wooden covering and removes the need to paint the individual planks and markings laboriously by hand. The result is a clean, repeatable and scale-faithful surface that lifts the overall impression of the finished aircraft carrier model considerably.
Degrease the deck of the model first and remove the dust. Lay the sheet down gradually, pressing from the center out to the edges and squeezing the air bubbles out. Trim the edges and the cut-outs around the superstructure with a sharp knife. The transitions can be evened out with a fine wash or a flat varnish.
This is an accessory for a model, not a ship kit. The base model is not included in the package.
