Wooden deck 1:700 HMS Rodney — veneer of real wood for a model of the British battleship. It faithfully imitates the extensive wooden decks of the subject and gives a model a display-quality look.
Responsibility details are not available.
A wooden deck set for a model of the British battleship HMS Rodney in 1:700 scale. The thin veneer of real wood is precisely cut according to the deck plan of a particular kit, whose designation we give in the name of the product. It is therefore not a standalone model but an add-on that replaces painting the deck areas. It is precisely on battleships with extensive wooden decks that the effect of real wood is most striking — the fine grain of the growth rings and the natural shades give a model a depth that is reached with ordinary painting only with difficulty.
HMS Rodney, together with her sister ship Nelson, belonged to a unique class of British battleships with the entire main armament concentrated in three turrets on the bow. In May 1941 she played a significant part in the destruction of the German battleship Bismarck and later supported Allied operations with fire on coastal targets, including the Normandy landings. Her extensive deck areas make a wooden veneer a very rewarding add-on.
Seat the deck on a dry, painted model — first a dry run, then gradual pressing down from the center toward the edges. In the intricate places around the turrets and the superstructures proceed patiently and never bend the overlaps by force. At the end, clear coat the whole deck with a fine matte varnish, which evens out the sheen of the wood with the surrounding areas.
This is an add-on to a kit, not a standalone model. Before buying, compare the designation in the name of the product with your own kit.
