1:700 IJN Kagero Class Destroyer Shiranui / Akigumo is a plastic kit of the Japanese Kagero class destroyers in 1:700 scale from Fujimi, as they appeared at the start of the war in the Pacific.

An injection-molded plastic kit in the 1:700 ship scale from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi. The name gives two names, Shiranui and Akigumo, which with destroyers usually means an optional build or a release with more than one vessel in a single box. How many hulls the package contains is stated on the box and in the instructions. The addition in the name refers to the appearance at the start of the war in the Pacific, that is to the initial configuration before the later changes to the armament.
The Kagero class was among the finest Japanese fleet destroyers of prewar design. They were fast ships with 12.7 cm gun armament in twin turrets and with heavy torpedo armament supplemented by a stock of reload torpedoes, which was one of the characteristic features of the Japanese school. Shiranui was one of the units of this class, while Akigumo was a ship of the following construction batch, which various sources place either still with the Kagero or already with the next class. In their appearance at the start of the war these ships still had a clean silhouette without the later additions of anti-aircraft mountings and radar antennas.
Destroyers in 1:700 scale are small and sensitive to clean work. Spray the hull and the superstructures with an airbrush, set the deck areas apart and finish the whole thing with a dark wash that pulls out the engraved lines. The torpedo tubes and their mechanisms are among the most conspicuous details, so bring them out with a dry brush. Glue the masts, the antennas and the gun barrels with cyanoacrylate glue, and on the plastic parts use thin cement applied with a fine brush instead. Given the size of these ships, photo-etched railings and added antennas pay off especially well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
