Artwox Model 1:700 a deck masking template for the Japanese seaplane tender Kunikawa Maru is a pre-cut mask for spraying the deck areas on a plastic kit. Intended for the Aoshima 009758 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory, not a model. It is a sheet of pre-cut masks following the shape of the deck areas of one particular kit. It is used during spraying so that the wooden and the metal parts of the deck get different shades with a clean division.
Auxiliary ships of this type have a deck more intricate than battleships: crane bases, rails, hatches and designated handling areas divide the surface into a host of small fields. Cutting them out of masking tape by hand in 1:700 scale is a whole evening of work and the result tends to be imprecise. A pre-cut template does this part for you and the edges come out where they belong.
The surface has to be dry and free of dust; before sticking the mask on, go over the area with a soft brush. Raise the small pieces of the template with the tip of a scalpel or sharp tweezers, as they cannot be handled with fingers in this scale. Once they are stuck on, press all the edges down carefully. Time the removal for the moment the paint has set; waiting until the coat has fully cured does not pay off, because the edge may chip. Peel slowly and at a sharp angle back over itself, not straight upwards.
The mask is cut for the Aoshima 009758 kit, so check the match with your version. Neither the kit nor paints are included in the package.
