A set of 9 turned 406 mm barrels from Aber in 1:700 in the long form for models of the American battleships North Carolina and Washington.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of nine turned metal barrels of the 406 mm main armament in 1:700 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It is not a kit of a ship but replacement parts for the plastic barrels. The long form reckons on turrets where the barrel is visible along its whole length up to where it passes through the face. Turned metal offers a perfectly straight barrel with a circular cross section and a drilled muzzle, which a plastic casting split by a mold cannot reach.
The 406 mm caliber made up the main armament of the American battleships of the North Carolina class. Both units of this class, the North Carolina and the Washington, carried nine of these guns in three triple turrets, two forward and one aft. The count of nine barrels in the set therefore matches the full armament of one ship. Both ships saw combat service in the Pacific and are a rewarding subject among modelers.
Cut the plastic barrels off with a saw as close to the turret face as possible and clean up the hole left behind, drilling it out to the diameter of the pin if needed. Glue the metal barrel with the smallest amount of cyanoacrylate glue. Before it sets, check from above and from the side that all three barrels of a turret point in one plane. Degrease the metal, spray it with a base coat for metal and paint it together with the turret.
This is an accessory set of turned barrels, not a standalone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
