The Artwox Model 1:700 wooden deck for the USS Baltimore CA-68 1944 in the blue finish is an accessory to a plastic kit. A dark self-adhesive veneer will replace an engraved plastic deck.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a kit but an accessory to one. According to the name the veneer is in the blue finish, that is in a dark shade matching the painted-over deck planks of American ships of the late wartime period. The laying of the planks stays marked, the back is self-adhesive and gluing it on does without glue. Watch one detail: the target kit this variant is cut for is given in the name of the product and need not be the same as the kit for the light wood variant.
The USS Baltimore was the lead ship of the American class of heavy cruisers taken into service from 1943. Nine 203 mm guns were placed in three triple turrets, and the dual-purpose battery consisted of 127 mm guns. The ships of this class came about already without treaty limits, so they had a longer hull, a greater displacement and heavier armor than their interwar predecessors. In 1944 they carried extensive light anti-aircraft armament.
A dark deck and photo-etch go well together, but the order has to be kept. First finish spraying the hull and the superstructures, then glue the veneer on and only at the end fit the photo-etched railings and other fine parts. Rather avoid drilling holes through glued-on veneer, as burrs of wood are hard to clean up; prepare the holes in the plastic in advance and only open them carefully in the veneer with the tip of a scalpel. Super glue on the photo-etch must not run onto the wood, as it leaves glossy marks that you can no longer remove.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
