A wooden deck 1:700 USS Minneapolis CA-36 in the blue finish is an accessory to a ship kit: a veneer with printed planks in a blue shade matching the wartime painting of decks. Intended for the Trumpeter 05744 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is an accessory, not a kit of the ship. This variant differs from the basic finish in color: instead of the natural shade of wood the deck has a blue tone. American warships often had their deck areas painted dark blue during the Second World War, which lowered their visibility when seen from above. A modeler therefore chooses, according to the state he wants to show, either the deck in natural wood or precisely this blue version. The structure of the planks stays preserved, it only shows through the color tone.
The USS Minneapolis CA-36 was among the American heavy cruisers of the New Orleans class. On the model it is a ship with a large continuous deck area, so the choice between natural wood and blue paint changes the overall impression of the finished model considerably.
With a colored veneer the main concern is protecting the surface. Avoid touching the glued area with your fingers and do not work with it over solvents, as the layer of color is more sensitive than bare wood. Before gluing, degrease the plastic and verify the fit dry. Once the deck is glued on, spraying a very fine coat of matte varnish is recommended, as it evens the shade out and protects it against rubbing during further handling of the model. Do not spray heavily and all at once, so that the veneer does not ripple. The accessory is designed for the Trumpeter 05744 kit.
The accessory is supplied on its own. The ship kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
