The USS North Carolina BB-55 wooden deck in 1:700 is a self-adhesive veneer sheet with the laying of the deck planks printed on it for a model of the American battleship. The veneer is cut for the deck of the Trumpeter 05734 kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a model but an aftermarket accessory to a ship kit. The veneer sheet carries the printed grain of the deck planking and a self-adhesive layer on the back, so it sticks directly onto the plastic deck of a finished hull. The outline is cut for the Trumpeter 05734 kit; otherwise it could not be used in 1:700 scale. The result is a deck with the real texture of wood, which on a model never reads as plastic.
The USS North Carolina BB-55 was the first of the American generation of fast battleships brought into service at the beginning of the 1940s and operated above all in the Pacific. Her expansive forward and after decks make up a large part of the visible area of a model, so this is a type where a wooden deck tells the most.
The order matters more on ships than on aircraft. Finish and paint the hull and the deck first, including the darker shades and any weathering on the sides, because once the veneer is glued on it is hard to spray around the deck. Then sand the deck flat, remove any molded details that would lift the veneer and degrease the area. Remove the film from the back in sections, press the veneer down with a soft cloth and watch that the planks run along the axis of the ship. Fit the superstructures, the guns and the photo-etched parts only after it is glued on. If the deck has no protection of its own, go over it at the end with a thin coat of matte varnish.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model. The kit, glue, paints and varnish are not included in the package.
