1:72 ?-34-85 (specially for the model T-34 ZVEZDA_5039)

The real subject

The T-34-85 is the late stage of development of the most widespread Soviet medium tank of the Second World War. Compared with the older machines it received an 85 mm gun and with it a substantially larger turret for a three-man crew. The essential thing about that was not only the longer barrel: the commander finally stopped having to see to the loading and could watch the battlefield, which helped the tank more than the firepower itself. In this form the tank rode the war out as far as Berlin and served in the armies of a number of countries long afterward.

What the set contains

A printed decal sheet in 1:72 scale with the tactical markings and inscriptions for the T-34-85. How many marking variants are on the sheet and which machine each belongs to is given in the manufacturer's instructions. The name of the set states that it is prepared directly for the Zvezda kit with the catalog number 5039, so the size and the placing of the motifs correspond to its shape. On another model of the same scale, therefore, compare the dimensions with the area the decals are to go onto before applying them.

How the decals are applied

Cut the motif out together with its backing paper, soak it for a few seconds in lukewarm water and, as soon as the film begins to move, lay it in place and draw the paper out from under it. The base should be smooth and gloss, otherwise air will be trapped under the film and the edges will whiten. On a tank the decals often go onto the cast surface of the turret, where a softener is necessary so that the film is pressed into the texture. Only then comes the matte varnish and the dusting.
