A kit of the disc-shaped Avrocar machine in 1:72 scale, listed by the supplier with the epithet Racer X.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Avrocar was an experimental machine of disc shape with vertical takeoff, tested in the late 1950s. Avro Canada built it to an American military requirement, and the machine was to combine vertical takeoff with fast horizontal flight. In the trials, however, stability above a low height could not be mastered and the project remained at the prototype stage. It is precisely the unusual shape that makes the Avrocar a rewarding subject, because on a shelf it resembles nothing else.
A kit in 1:72 scale. The supplier lists it with the epithet Racer X, which is not explained any further. The scale agrees in the name as well as in the designation of the item.
A disc shape has a long peripheral joint that is visible from every angle once it is glued. It pays, therefore, to glue the halves section by section, to let the joint dry properly and only then to sand and polish it. Wash and degrease the model before painting. Continuous areas with no division reveal every irregularity, so a primer coat proves its worth, after which the flaws are easy to find and make good.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
