This is an accessory to the scene around a finished model, not an airplane kit. The Czech maker Brengun supplies a set of airfield baggage carts in 1:72 scale, that is the small transport carts used at civil and military airfields alike to move baggage, mail and crates of material. In a scene they fill a role the model itself cannot: they give the area scale and explain what is going on around the machine.
An aircraft model standing on a bare base reads like an exhibit in a display case. As soon as a loaded cart, a parked train of them or a crate by the landing gear wheel appears beside it, the eye immediately judges the size of the machine and the scene begins to tell a story. Baggage carts are among the most universal diorama accessories there are: they suit airliners, transport aircraft and the support area of a field airfield, and they are not tied to one particular era or country.
First clear the parts of the remains of casting or stamping and, before painting, wash them in warm water with a drop of dish soap so that no grease or production residue is left on the surface. Let them dry perfectly and spray them with a thin coat of primer: without it, paint does not hold on a smooth surface and rubs off during handling. The carts look best when they are not new: after the base color, a dark wash into the joints helps, along with fine dry-brushing of the worn edges in a metal shade and a light touch of dust on the wheels and the lower part of the frame. Set them into the base so that every wheel rests on it; fill any gap with putty and disguise it with scatter material or the texture of the airfield surface.
