An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer AZ model. The Bulgarian Eagles release focuses on machines operated by the Bulgarian Air Force. The contents of the package, the number of parts and the extent of the decal sheet are given in the instructions in the kit, and they differ between individual releases.
The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-3 is one of the early production versions of this fighter line, powered by an inverted V12 Daimler-Benz DB 601 with direct fuel injection. The design is distinguished by a small all-metal airframe, a narrow landing gear track and a framed cockpit canopy. The E-3 version differed from the earlier machines mainly in its armament and in modifications of the power plant. Besides the Luftwaffe the type also reached several other operators, among them Bulgaria.
The model has small landing gear and radiator parts, so it pays to cut them off with a sharp scalpel and clean them up only just before gluing. Try the fuselage halves and the lower wing together dry first. Glue with thin cement for polystyrene, fill the seams and sand them back. Mask the cockpit, apply a filler primer and spray the paint with an airbrush in thin coats. Mottled camouflage is easier to do freehand at low pressure, or with a mask made of modeling putty for a soft transition. Prepare gloss varnish under the decals.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
