A kit of the four-engine Boeing 307 Stratoliner airliner in 1:72 scale. According to the name, the box covers the S-307 and SB-307B versions, that is two of the variants in which this rare type flew. BAT has a whole group of boxings of this subject with different markings, so when choosing, check which version you want to build. The contents of the box, the number of parts, the type of tooling and the choice of decals are given on the box and in the instructions — with short-run production it pays to know them in advance.
The Boeing 307 Stratoliner was the first production airliner with a pressurized cabin. Thanks to it, the aircraft could fly at altitudes above most bad weather, which at the time meant markedly smoother and faster travel for passengers. The design used a wing and tail surfaces derived from the four-engine bomber of the same maker then in production, combined with a new circular-section fuselage. Only ten aircraft were built, so it is among the rarest airliner types of its era and appears in model form only exceptionally.
With short-run tooling always reckon on the parts needing to be cleaned of flash and tried dry; the joints often call for filling and sanding. Deal with the cockpit and the windows before you close the fuselage. The glossy metal finish of an airliner is demanding: it needs a perfectly smoothed and polished base, because a metallic coat emphasizes every scratch. Stir metallic paints thoroughly before use, apply them last and mask with care — overspray on them is hard to repair. Apply the decals onto gloss varnish, and lay the extensive airline lining down in sections.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
