An airman figure in 1:72 scale for a model of the Eurofighter Typhoon fighter. The manufacturer recommends it for all six countries that operate the type.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Eurofighter Typhoon came about as a joint venture of Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain and began reaching front-line squadrons at the turn of the millennium. Today it forms the backbone of the fighter force of several European countries and it is also operated by customers outside Europe. According to the manufacturer this figure is usable for British, German, Italian, Spanish, Austrian and Saudi machines, so a single figure covers a substantial part of the users of the type.
The space under the large one-piece canopy is clearly visible on this aircraft and an empty seat makes a finished model more of a technical mockup than a scene. A figure in a helmet and flying equipment gives the machine scale: the viewer realizes at once from it how big the real aircraft is. In 1:72 scale it is a small component, but its influence on the final impression is out of all proportion to other small things.
The figure serves to complete an aircraft the builder obtains separately; the machine itself is not part of the package. Before painting, degrease it and lay the paint on in thin coats, or the folds of the g-suit and the seat harness straps will be lost. Try the fit in the cockpit dry before you start painting the interior.
The same series also holds another airman figure for the same aircraft type, distinguished by the number one. Use the pair on a two-seat version or in a scene where two pilots are handing over duty on the apron.
